Fisrt Birthday

Okay, so a lot of people have gotten on to me about not posting in awhile...sorry! I've been a busy baby.
Fist of all, it's the holiday season, and second, I was busy celebrating my first birthday! (Mom says it was a milestone, whatever that means) So we had Halloween where I was a farmer complete with cowboy hat and bandanna. We went trick-or-treating at my godparents house in Humble. Lots of fun!

We also went to Dewberry Farms where we rode on the corn train, wound our way through the corn maize, and picked out the perfect pumpkin. I saw some goats, chickens, and a horse. They were sooo cool! I just get so excited to see those awesome creatures!

So that brings us to November, the coolest month of my first year. I had 3 celebrations of my birthday. What a lucky kid I am! In the early afternoon we went to my Aunt Lu's house, had some turkey and pumpkin pie, later we went to my godparent's house, had some MORE turkey and pumpkin pie--and my very own turkey cake! The last celebration was at my house. We had the neighbors and my grandparents and Uncle Luke over. By that time, I was getting spoiled on all the attention and sweets! Here, Oreo is all over my face!

My Mom made me a shirt that said"So Fun to be 1". It had my name on the back and "gobble gobble" around the neck since my birthday fell on Thanksgiving day this year. My Oma, Pops and Uncle Luke gave me this ball pit that keeps me occupied for long periods of time. It lets Mom get stuff done, as she puts it. Here's a pic of it. Doesn't it look like so much fun?
Now it's December and more fun is to come. The tree is up and so are the stockings. I've been a very good boy about leaving them alone (I know Santa is watching ; } ).

Cutie Pie!

This is the onsie I was talking about. The one from Jackson Hole.

What I've Learned

I consider myself a pretty smart baby. Here are some things I've learned in life.

1. What goes up must come down, and what goes down Mom picks up (or Beamer eats up).

2. Two things in life are certain: bath time and nite nite.

3. Nobody likes their hair pulled. Not Mom, not Dad, and not Beamer. I will continue the experiment to see if it yields different results.

4. Never feed a baby chili.

5. Just because something is food and tastes all right to you, it doesn't mean you should eat it (i.e dog food). Mom flipped about that one.

6. A smile will get you a lot of what you want in life.

7. How Mom and Dad are able to drink from a straw is one of life's greatest mysteries.

8. No pain; no gain (i.e. TEETH!)

9. The quickest way to get around is to hold your arms up, kick out your legs and scream. Guaranteed someone will pick you up! One exception to that is riding in the car, in that case, nothing will work!

10. I've got TONS more learning to do about this world!

Playground

Mom and I just got back from one of the neighborhood playgrounds. It's a short stroller ride, and with the weather so nice, I enjoyed the trip. Once there we headed straight for the swings. I have one at home that hangs from the porch, and this one's similar. Other babies get to use the one at the park. And this one is kind of hard for me to sit up straight in so I pretty much lean forward staring at the ground. It's okay because Mom tries to make it as fun as possible. She'll sing songs or make super silly noises. Anything for a laugh!

Next place was the slides and monkey bars. Mom tried to get me to grasp the bars, but I was having more fun with her holding me above her head! She was going to put me on the slide but there was water. Instead I got to do something totally cool. I got to play in the dirt! WOW! I looked at my hand in amazement because it was black! Black as dirt! haha, get it? Mom said it was okay, that I am a boy and she might as well get used to it. That's right, Mom!

I also got to explore acorns. They were a rich green and yellow color. Mom told me where they come from and how the squirrels really like them. After that we had to go back home. I made myself very clear about not wanting to go back, but Mom put me in the stroller anyway. I drank my water and back home it was.

Emergent Reader

One of my favorite activities now days besides screaming at Mom or Dad and chasing Beamer around is reading! Believe it or not, but I have been reading for quite a while now on my own--about a whole month!
Give me a board book and watch me go! Sometimes I sit in Mommy's lap and while she holds the book and tells the story, I'll turn the pages. It's nice to sit in her lap and read.
I also read all on my own! In this picture I have just finished reading about Baby Taz all by myself. Yes, I've crawled to the book, opened it and turned it page by page! Yesterday I turned 10 months, imagine what I'll be doing next month!

Target and Outside--What a Day!

A short post tonight since it's past my bed time. My mom figured out a way to get my two naps back. I guess I'll be a good sport and take them like a good boy. She's right, I am tired, but there's just so much going on! I don't want to miss anything!

After my morning nap we went to Target. That was exciting, but it's exciting going anywhere. And, since the outside doesn't "melt the make-up off (Mom's) face," she wants to go out all the time--SUPER AWESOME! Back to Target. Mom got some pretty interesting stuff--shampoo, hair gel, Thera Flu (something about sick pigs), and a notebook. All of which I got to investigate. The Thera Flu box and gel make for a great make-shift drum set. Mom doesn't mind because it keeps me occupied.

After my second nap, we did something we'd never done before. Beamer was scratching the back door to go out (which drives my mom nuts because "doesn't that dog know how much that door costs?). When Mom opened the door and Beamer went out, I saw my chance! I started crawling out the door! I couldn't help it, the wind was calling me, "...Nathan...look at what I can do to the leaves...ahh..." So Mom got a blanket and laid it out on the concrete and the three of us hung out for quite some time.

It was uniquely refreshing, and I look forward to what's to come! Goodnight to all. I've got some baby dreams to make!

Time Flys By!

Well, I see that my last post was in February! WOW, so much has happened since then. The short version-- I learned to sit up, turn over (both ways), crawl, pull up and now I cruise!! Woo hoo, can I get around! I've got 2 teeth and another one is creeping in. I think that is the reason for my moods the last few days.
Yesterday, Mom and I went to story book time, which I LOVE, but I have to admit I wasn't interested so much in the books. There were those totally awesome inflatable baby-size beach balls! They usually don't bring those out until after we read the books (mom says something about study first, then play), so as soon as we went into the room, I had one objective. Those that know me will say that when I make up my mind to do or get something, I won't stop until I do.
I could tell that my mom was a little embarrassed at my behavior, probably a little surprised too since she knows I love books and singing songs. She was totally cool about it though, especially since I shrieked super loudly when she tried to reel me back in. It was all good though, because once the other babies saw me having fun, they said, "See ya!" to their moms and joined me in the fun. Those babies rock. Turns out we're all about the same age too. Well, a little older, but I'm still bigger!!
One last bit, last night Uncle Luke brought over a onesie for me that they got from Jackson Hole. I will have to post a pic as soon as mom can wash it and get me in it!

Fresh from a bath. You should have seen the fountain I had going for this one!
Always with the camera. I give them what they want, and they usually back off for a little while. It's something about my smile they're always after.
The problem is that I know I'm as cute as they say.
